Honoring National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day

National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NGMHAAD) is observed each year on September 27 to direct attention to the continuing and disproportionate impact of HIV on gay and bisexual men in the United States. To help commemorate this important day, The Pride Center will be partnering with the Broward County MSM Advisory Group this coming Sunday, September 27th from 1-2 pm for a virtual, online Wellness Corner, a brunch hour of self-care tips held in observance of National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. Be sure to scroll down to the bottom of this message for event flyers.

Click HERE to join the session on Sunday, September 27th at 1pm.

Later on Sunday afternoon from 2-5pm, Pride Center staff will be on-site providing FREE HIV testing at Club Fort Lauderdale.

Club Fort Lauderdale is located at: 110 NW 5th AveFort Lauderdale, FL 33311

Free HIV testing is currently available by appointment at The Pride Center, with tests conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11AM – 7PM with the last appointment at 6PM. To schedule an appointment, please call our Testing Office at 954-463-9005 ext. 202.

Because the health and safety of the community and our staff members remains our number one priority, a brief health assessment will be conducted over the phone when you call to make an appointment. Our staff will be wearing face masks at all times during your appointment and upon your arrival, a staff member will administer an on-site, touch-less temperature check. All clients entering The Pride Center for an HIV testing appointment must wear a face covering which covers the mouth and nose at all times while in the building — our Prevention staff will have masks available for clients who don’t have one.

The Shanti L.I.F.E. Program has just gotten underway virtually, and there is still time to join us as a participant! This FREE 12 week program for gay, bisexual and same gender loving men living with HIV teaches practical, step-by-step guidance in a fun, interactive environment as you create and implement health plans for long-term thriving with HIV.

In the L.I.F.E. program, you’ll learn new, innovative ways to care for your body, mind and spirit like: how to cope with sudden or distressing life changes, strategies for developing open communication and a collaborative relationship with medical professionals, and stress reduction and goal setting tactics.

For more information, you can call Lorenzo Robertson, Prevention Interventions Coordinator at The Pride Center at 954-463-9005 extension 306 or email LRobertson@PrideCenterFlorida.org.
