A Twist on a Beloved Past-Time

Fishing has been an income source to many, a way to provide a
fresh meal and for Deliver the Dream, a therapeutic opportunity to bring families
together.

On Saturday, August 29, fifty families from across the United States participated in
Deliver the Dream’s sold out Family Fishing Day. “The program was created to bring
fun to families while maintaining social distancing,” stated Paul Withrow, Executive
Director. “Families were provided fishing kits that included fishing rods and reels, a full
tackle box, face buffs and other essential fishing supplies. Families chose their favorite
fishing spot and casted away. We also incorporated a scavenger hunt to make sure
everyone stayed involved.” The Family Fishing Day program had wonderful support
from SA Fishing, Bass Pro Shops Dania Beach and the Charles & Ester Frye
Foundation.

“We are very grateful for all the supplies you provided,” stated Christina Garofano.
“Neither of my boys have been fishing and one of my kids has autism. I didn’t know if he
would get into it and he absolutely did! He was casting with the best of them and it was
huge grins all around. We have two future fisherman and are so thankful for this
opportunity.”

When the pandemic impacted so many with the shut-down, Deliver the Dream
recreated programs to continue impacting lives. The Family Fishing Day is one of
several programs created to support families during these challenging times.
