Holy Angels Church Spreading Its Wings

By John Hayden

Holy Angels Catholic Church has settled into its new home but is far from settling down. Over the past year, it moved to 1436 NE 26th Street in Wilton Manors’ Island City Plaza. Monsignor James Forsythe told OutClique the new location was an answer to a prayer.

Holy Angels has truly thrived at our new location,” he said. “Our new home is large and bright, a perfect worship area.”

Over the past year, Holy Angels has installed an AV system that lets them stream Masses and classes, participate in a food sharing program, and support their mission school in Sierra Leone. Forsythe says their growth continues.

“We have just signed a lease for an additional space in the shopping center which will provide a meeting room,” he said. “We hope to invite groups like AA and Flight to come and use the space as a community service.”

They have just completed a five-week series on Sexuality and Scripture, what the Bible really says about sex and homosexuality. It is available online.

Forsythe says it’s all part of their focus on spirituality.

“One of the main growth points for the church is our spirituality,” he said. “We are becoming an ‘as if’ church. Our worship services and prayers are based on the belief as if our prayers are already answered. Instead of begging God to listen to our prayers, we pray prayers of gratitude.”
