The Sparrow Has Landed

At the Dalmar

By Steven O. Evans, PhD

Ah, the view. Yes, let’s start there. Overlooking all of Fort Lauderdale, FL, the new Sparrow bar at the sparkling Dalmar offers its visitors a roundabout scene of our beautiful city. Sit inside or outside, the floor to ceiling windows will give you a bird’s eye view of the city.

Inside, you’ll step back in time with this 80’s retro look. No, Marsha, Greg, Jan, and Cindy won’t be there, but you might wonder if they had just stopped by for a drink. Sparrow boasts splashes of color, mixed with comfy couches, cozy tables for two, and cocktails that make for a snazzy look.

Order your drinks at the bar highlighted by the pink neon lighting. You’ll wonder if Priscilla from down under will be around the corner. Start your night with their Let’s Get Incredible, Espolon blanco tequila, salted grapefruit cordial, rhubarb, lemon juice, seltzer, and black salt make for the perfect liquid refresher in a glass. Had a long, hard day at the beach? Try their Sunstroke.

Sparrow blends Wild Turkey 101Rye Whiskey, pineapple, and lime juices, Ancho Reyes, and cinnamon for this enticing drink. It’s served up in a tall glass with ice, so no need to worry about overheating.

Looking to be more adventurous? Served up in a super cool glass from your grandma’s china hutch, the A1A boasts jalapeño Olmeca Altos Tequila, Lustau Amontillado, sherry, celery, lime juice, and salt. I would suggest using the Nashville filter when you post it on Insta so you will look super retro. Don’t forget to tag @thedalmar @theterracegrill @sparrowrooftop @rosescoffeebar when you do.

But don’t “just” go for the atmosphere, the view, or the drinks. Take yourself and your date for the food, as well. Start with the Tempura Rock Shrimp. There’s lots of them and plenty to share. If you want to put your date “in the mood,” order up some of their oysters on the half shell. Finish up with some key lime pie, a little slice (pun intended) of Key West in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

So make a date to check out the glamorous, new Dalmar Hotel and Sparrow at 299 N Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale FL, 33301. Call (954) 945-9500, or for more information, visit their website at
