September is National Recovery Month and National Suicide Prevention Month

As we recognize this important month, we continue to raise awareness of these issues and work to improve mental health in our community.

Care Guides Donna, Matt and Candice attended the International Overdose Awareness Day, August 31 event hosted by FAU Collegiate Recovery Community (CRC).

FAU CRC was founded by our very own Care Guide, Matt Patterson, and the event is hosted every year to bring attention to issues surrounding substance use disorders (SUDs), remember those who have died from an overdose, and acknowledge the grief of the family and friends left behind.

“I am incredibly proud to have been a part of the 2022 Annual Overdose Awareness Event hosted by the Collegiate Recovery Community at Florida Atlantic University, CRC@FAU. This event started as the first student-sponsored Narcan Training and Distribution on campus, and this year over 70 boxes of the life-saving overdose-reversing medication were distributed.

I am especially elated because this year, Broward House was among the ten different recovery and harm-reduction agencies that participated, providing resources and information to more than 200 students, friends, family, faculty, and allies. Broward House is where my recovery journey began, and without them, I would never have made it to FAU as a student and never had the opportunity to form the CRC.”
