Meet, Greet, Learn and Grow:  Resources for our Business Community

By Rod Davis, CEO BBB serving Southeast Florida and the Caribbean

If you are like me, you are relieved to be meeting with colleagues, networking and attending in person events. Our business community is vibrant, creative and fun and there are many opportunities for you to connect in the months ahead. Here are a few options to consider.

Long Term Development: The Jim Moran Institute provides a 9-day training program for business owners who have been in business three years and have at least three employees.  The Small Business Executive Program (SBEP) is ideal for CEOs, entrepreneurs, presidents of small businesses, and immediate successors of businesses. You will emerge a stronger leader ready to capitalize on business opportunities, implement best practice management, and turn challenges into a strategic advantage. Thanks to our supporters, this program is offered at no cost to the accepted participants.

The program begins on July 24 and runs through November. The full schedule and more information about the opportunity can be found at:  jimmoraninstitute.fsu.edu/programs/small-business-executive-program/south-florida

The Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) also provide programs and information to help start up and established businesses. One of the unique programs offered by the Florida Small Business Development Center (in partnership with Broward County Cultural Division and ArtServe) is the Creative Entrepreneur Development Program to help artists manage their careers more professionally and is delivered during one-on-one private consulting sessions and group training sessions.

Learning and Networking: The Small Business Leadership Conference will be held at the Lowes Orlando Sapphire Falls Resort June 19-21.  BBB, SBDC and other organizations partner with the Jim Moran Institute to create one of the best conferences for small and medium sized businesses.

The SBLC offers:

  •       Sponsorship & Networking Opportunities
  •       20+ Workshop Sessions
  •       Dynamic Keynote Presenters

You can learn more about the conference and register at: www.sblconference.com

BBB hosts local events offering essential information for business leaders, networking opportunities and events like the BBB Business Conference and Torch Awards for Ethics. The BBB Conference and Torch Awards for Ethics will take place in our community. In addition to the educational workshops, local business leaders will have a chance to network to find new partners and customers. The event concludes with the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics Luncheon and the award presentation.

If you have a business focused on the four C’s (Character, Culture, Customers and Community) you may want to apply. BBB’s panel of judges reviews the submissions, evaluates the entries and selects the winners announced at the luncheon. Information about the BBB Torch Awards for Ethics is available at: www.bbb.org/local/0633/torch-awards/eligibility

We are lucky to live in a wonderful climate and to have a strong, vibrant business community that appreciates and celebrates our diverse market. The organizations and leaders in southeast Florida included above are here to help you. Let’s make 2023 a big success.
