A Day of Giving

Miami’s largest annual online giving day, Give Miami Day, is scheduled for Thursday, November 18, 2021. The annual giving movement unites nonprofits; big and small, new and established,  to celebrate and increase generosity in Greater Miami through online giving so anyone can make a philanthropic impact.

Hosted by The Miami Foundation, Give Miami Day raises funds for nearly 900 local organizations in every nonprofit sector from animals to education and from equity to the arts. Last year, even in the throes of a pandemic, 33,380 donors generously donated more than $18.2 million dollars to champion causes that strengthen our community.

“Miami is not a magic city, it’s the Magic City,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, president and CEO of The Miami Foundation. “And what makes it magical to me is how generous and loving Miamians are when it is time to give back to their city and community. We all share a passion for Miami and a strong will to make it a better place for all of its residents. Give Miami Day is the most powerful unifying moment of the year, it’s only about giving back, supporting nonprofits, expressing our love for our city.”

This year’s campaign, the 10th anniversary, aims to be the biggest yet, and offers the community more ways and days to give. Donors can begin supporting their favorite causes during Early Giving, Monday, November 15, 2021, all the way through Give Miami Day. At midnight, Thursday, November 18, the 24-hour giving celebration officially launches, highlighting “Power Hours” throughout the day. Power Hours place specific causes and issues center stage for one hour each, enabling specific nonprofit categories to raise dollars matched by the Foundation and its sponsors.

Philanthropic data shows that nonprofits led by LGBTQA+ leaders receive less funding compared to their peers working on similar issue areas. Knowing that donors have shown an interest in supporting historically marginalized leaders and organizations, the Foundation offers the “LGBTQA+ and Equity Hour” from 4PM – 5 PM. Consider giving during that time to increase the power of your donation and support LGBTQA+ led organizations working to strengthen LGBTQA+ communities. During Give Miami Day, this hour will spotlight these leaders and organizations, giving them an extra boost (and bonus dollars).

Here are eight LGBTQA+ serving organizations, of many, taking part in this year’s Give Miami Day for you to consider giving to:
