Choreographer, actor and singer, Todrick Hall is a multi-talented entertainer whose popularity has skyrocketed him into A-list status.
Since his YouTube debut over a decade ago he’s released 11 albums, starred in hit reality tv shows including American Idol, and has had several successful Broadway runs including roles in Chicago, Kinky Boots, Memphis, Waitress and The Color Purple.
He’s also BFFs with Taylor Swift.
Now, the self-proclaimed ‘baddest bi**h of all’ is bringing his original brand of sass to The Parker in his new show, Velvet Rage.
“This show is a hybrid of different eras of my career. We’ll be doing music from Straight Outta Oz, Haus Party, Forbidden and Roach Killaz,” says Hall, referring to his previously released albums.
He’s also got a few surprises up his sequined sleeve.
“I’ll be debuting some new never before heard music, as well as singing perhaps my favorite song to ever exist, that I’ve surprisingly never performed before,” he promises.
Fort Lauderdale is just one of the 33 stops on the tour, but one that holds a special place in Hall’s heart.
“I have simply fallen in love with Fort Lauderdale, my fans treat me so well here and the weather ain’t too bad either,” he says. “I love how South Florida has embraced the LGBTQ+ community. I have performed here at least seven times and each time I’m showered with more love than the time before.”
Hall’s Velvet Rage is “a story of empowerment that every rebel, freethinker, and dreamer can raise their voice to,” explains Hall. “My cast consists of six incredible dancers, who are trained in many dance styles including hip hop, jazz funk, musical theater, ballet, and heels, plus they’re not too shabby to look at either,” he adds with a wink.
Hall who began his own formal ballet training at the age of nine, boasts an impressive resumé which includes roles as a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race, providing choreography for Beyoncé, and even co-executive producing Taylor Swift’s LGBTQ+ anthem, “You Need to Calm Down”, which earned him a coveted MTV VMA Award in 2019.
“I’ve experienced so much career-wise, had some truly eye-opening experiences that have given me more clarity on who I am and what I want to represent as an audience,” he says. “This show will be much more intimate than I’ve ever been at one of my live concerts and I think my fans will get to see a very different side of me and that sort of scares me . . . but I’m in a chapter of my life where I feel like if something doesn’t scare me then it’s not worth doing.”
“I’ve never been this excited to hit the road,” Hall continues, “but I think it will be my last tour for a while as I’m pivoting to focus on my love for Broadway!”.
Don’t miss this opportunity to witness Todrick Hall in Velvet Rage at The Parker on October 9, 2023.
