For 50 years, Lambda Legal has fought for the full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, transgender people, and everyone living with HIV through impact litigation, public policy advocacy, and education. On Sunday, March 26, 2023, the South Florida community came together at the Bonnet House Museum & Gardens for Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale to show their support for Lambda Legal’s work and honor the lifelong activism and support of Scott L. Bennett.
Scott’s lifetime of advocacy, activism, and philanthropy includes his instrumental work at McGraw-Hill, founding the LGBTQ Employee Resource Group and leading contributions to various local and national LGBTQ organizations including the NYC Pride Center, GLAAD, Empire State Pride Agenda, Our Fund, and, of course, Lambda Legal. He currently serves on the national board of SAGE, as the chair of The Our Fund Foundation, and is invested in supporting many other organizations both local and national. Lambda Legal was proud to thank Scott at this event.
Lambda Legal continues to fight anti-LGBTQ+ attacks across multiple states, including our continued work to remove policies preventing those living with HIV from enlisting in the U.S. Armed Forces, our challenge to Florida’s healthcare rule denying Medicaid coverage to transgender Medicaid beneficiaries, and our suit requesting state investigations of PFLAG families in Texas be blocked.
The Lambda Legal Southern Regional Office and Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale Host Committee would like to thank everyone who attended and supported this annual gathering in the Gardens!
The Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale event featured a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception on the lush grounds of the Bonnet House Museum and Gardens and performance by vocalist and pianist duo, Victor Valdez and Rick Leonard.
Please save the date for the 20th anniversary of the Lambda Legal in Fort Lauderdale event on March 24th, 2024.
