November 3: LIVE@Frost Science: When We Were Shuttle Film Screening

In this next edition of LIVE@Frost Science on Thursday, November 3, join us for the film screening premiere of WLRN Public Television’s latest documentary, When We Were Shuttle. This feature-length documentary explores the Space Shuttle Program through the eyes of some of the exceptional men and women who worked behind-the-scenes to make it fly. What in their opinions made the Program special? Why was it necessary? How did their involvement with Shuttle impact their lives, their families, and the greater community of Florida’s Space Coast? Through their recollections and personal archive, When We Were Shuttle gets to the core of the humanity behind the Program, gaining a unique, grassroots look at the way Shuttle affected life in the Sunshine State, from the thriving aerospace industry it sustained, to the dramatic impact the decision to retire Shuttle had when the Program ended in 2011. Following the film, join us for a Q&A session with the film producer and documentary participants.

November 8: Mini-Camp: Environmental Engineers

No school? No problem! Our dynamic Mini-Camps are the perfect action-packed solution to a Teacher Planning Day. Kids (ages 5 – 11) will spend the day exploring the museum’s interactive exhibitions, conducting science experiments, and making new friends. Let’s recycle and help our community as we talk trash about plastic. Your little ones will learn about sustainability and how to help the environment by completing a series of recycled STEM challenges. Plus, they’ll explore eco-friendly options and how to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

November 12: Laser Evening

Join us as we combine legendary music with laser light visuals during Laser Evenings. Dance and sing with Beyoncé (7 p.m.), enjoy the best of the Beatles (8 p.m.), feel the beat with Daft Punk (9 p.m.), break free with Queen (10 p.m.), and end the night with Pink Floyd (11 p.m.), all under the Frost Planetarium’s 67-foot dome.

November 19: Girl Scouts Exclusive Overnight Adventure: Reef Rescuers

Science never sleeps… especially at the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science! Pack your jammies—you’re invited to join us on Saturday, November 19 for a Frost Science Girl Scouts Exclusive Overnight Adventure. Open to girl scout troops—and designed for Girl Scouts—our Overnight Adventures are a thrilling way to experience the museum, as you spend the night exploring our interactive exhibitions, conducting experiments, working your way towards your next badge, and meeting new people after dark. Calling all reef rangers! Join our Frost Science team for a night full of porpoise-full fun as we dive into Florida’s Coral Reef. Discover the biodiverse habitats that are in our backyard through learning about their importance, the threats they face and what you can do to protect our marine resources. Spend the night under the Oculus, in Power of Science or in the Dive level of the Aquarium.

December 9: Laser Evening

Join us as we combine legendary music with laser light visuals during Laser Evenings. Enjoy the Holiday Magic show (7 p.m.), and Symphony of the Stars (8 p.m.) with your family, jam out with Prince (9 p.m.), enjoy rock hits from Nirvana (10 p.m.), rock out with Pink Floyd (11 p.m.), and more, all under the Frost Planetarium’s 67-foot dome.

December 11: Mini-Me Science: Frosty Flurries

Mini-Me Science is a monthly program at Frost Science designed for you and your little one (ages two to five). You’ll share experiences that engage the senses while promoting exploration and discovery through hands-on activities that are specifically designed for early learners. During Mini-Me Science, Frosty Flurries, guests will create a snowflake that’s one-of-a-kind – just like your little one. Discover different states of matter and the secret role that ice plays in weather, even here in our warm and sunny South Florida.

December 11: Tech Lab: Drones

Join Frost Science for a programming series that provides a hands-on immersion into the world of technology. Engage with some of the latest technology while learning the basics behind how it works, from coding to electrical engineering. Every workshop includes take-home technology to help ignite curiosity at home. During Tech Lab: Drones, guests will discover the science behind uncrewed aerial vehicles by building and racing your own microdrone. Along the way, you’ll encounter challenges to deepen your understanding of GPS, sensors, and circuitry in this materials science-focused session. Finally, you’ll be able to chat with an engineer that programs drones to take your learning to new heights!

December 14: LIVE@Frost Science: Sauro-throat! Respiratory Infections in Dinosaurs In this next edition of LIVE@Frost Science on Wednesday, December 14, Frost Science Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology Dr. Cary Woodruff will present Sauro-throat! Respiratory Infections in Dinosaurs. Diseases, traumas, and maladies have plagued life ever since there was life to infect. Illness is an all too familiar and present part of our world today, and yet it’s hard to wrap our heads around such disorders in the prehistoric world – and even harder to fathom what kinds of illnesses made the dinosaurs sick. A fossil studied by Dr. Woodruff bears the signs and ‘symptoms’ of an ancient respiratory infection. This respiratory infection is the first of its kind ever documented in the fossil record and contributes towards our understanding of the evolutionary history of illness today, and specifically what kind of maladies plagued these “fearfully great lizards.” Admission is complimentary. Tickets are limited to four per transaction. Program will take place inside the Frost Planetarium.

Winter Camp

Winter Break from school is the perfect time to chill out with science! Join Frost Science for two weeks of four-day camps and start the new year with some amazing experiments, discoveries and investigations, all while creating friendships.

Week 1: December 27 – 30 Space Academy

Campers (ages 5-11) will engage in engineering design challenges and team building such as designing, building, and launching a team rocket. Learn about what astronauts eat and how they exercise in space as you explore NASA missions, goals for future space travel, and problem-solving.

Week 2: January 3 – 6 Highlight Reel

Campers will enjoy some of our favorite science activities from the year for four STEM- filled days of exciting experiments, activities, and programs. They’ll take part in chemical experiments, archeological discoveries, engineering challenges and more in this jam-packed week of science.
