The Ujima Men’s Collective will hold its Annual Conference at the Gallery One Doubletree Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, October 13-15, 2023. The conference theme is Living in the Light, and we will have keynote speakers addressing the importance of living an authentic life, transparent spirituality, internalized homophobia in the Black same gender loving (SGL) community, and many other thought-provoking topics.

The Ujima Men’s Collective implores that personal responsibility is simply a moral choice. Our Ujima Men’s Collective Conference comes at a critical time when Black same gender loving men and Black people are under attack, plagued with challenges of health issues, death by police, bullying, homophobia, self-hatred, etc.

In addition to keynote speakers, conference attendees will also have access to a range of workshops on Leadership, Advocacy, Spirituality, Relationships, and Health & Wellness. This is one of the core initiatives of the Ujima Men’s Collective Executive Director Lorenzo Robertson, who believes Black SGL men should have an opportunity to educate, empower, and encourage each other in a safe and non-threatening environment. We will also incorporate some fun evening activities.

“Learning techniques and applying them to your personal life can create significant changes for Black same gender loving men and those that love and support us. Our conference will provide a unique opportunity to learn from other Black same gender loving men, an experience which some may not have had before,” Robertson says.

The Ujima Men’s Collective conference operates on five tenets: Leadership, Advocacy, Spirituality, Relationships, and Health & Wellness. Our speaker and workshop facilitators will incorporate those tenets into their presentations.

According to Lorenzo, “I believe the Ujima Conference is an exceptional opportunity for Black same gender loving men to learn and grow, and I am proud the Ujima Men’s Collective is taking a decisive lead addressing issues concerning Black same gender loving men.”

The Ujima Men’s Collective Conference, Living in the Light, will be held at the Gallery One Doubletree Hotel, 2670 Sunrise Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, Florida Friday-Sunday, October 13-15, 2023. We will also have keynote speakers, fantastic performances, intriguing workshops, discussions, and time to have fun. There are some great nightclubs in Fort Lauderdale.
