A New Look to the Key West Destination
By Steven O. Evans, PhD
What images come to mind when someone says, “Key West?” Historic homes? A stroll down Duval Street? Seeing the sunset on Mallory Square? Hanging with the boys at the clubs?
Welcome a new vision and a new setting to this beautiful landscape of Florida – the Perry Hotel. Built on Stock Island, just a few steps from Key West, this majestic property is one that was designed with every detail in mind.
When you enter the Perry, you’ll first notice it’s blend of Florida resort and New York City loft, while incorporating their nautical theme. With its exposed concrete, textured leathers, steel accents, and weathered wood tones, guests are given the luxury treatment.
Want to feel relaxed? Swim in the resort’s large, heated pool that is directly off the adjacent marina. Poolside rooms open right to the area. Private cabanas offer that extra touch of comfort.
Want to chill and get away? Eat and drink at the open air Salty Oyster Dockside Bar & Grill. My last few visits, I sat for several hours and enjoyed the view of the marina, pool, and resort, while trying their numerous cocktails. The Perry Punch and the Watermelon Jalapeño Margarita are my new favorites.
Also onsite, Matt’s Stock Island Kitchen & Bar offers dockside upscale but casual dining. I’m southern, so the Fried Chicken is my menu favorite.
Each room is spacious with nautical decor. Many rooms overlook and offer views of the marina and pool area. Want to treat yourself? Book one of the corner suites with wrap-around balconies.
