Party On, South Florida

The Ft. Lauderdale International Film Festival promises lights, cameras, and plenty of action at their extraordinary lineup of festival parties this year. With an eclectic collection of films, and parties ranging from over-the-top fabulous to afternoon sips of bubbly, FLiFF President and CEO Gregory von Hausch promises something for everyone at the festival.
The festival, which runs November 4 – November 13, 2022 features168 films from across the globe, celebrity guest appearances, and parties not to be missed.
“When I was growing up, my Italian family on my mom’s side, would take me to these Italian street fairs and I was really struck by how there was a potpourri of everything going on around you,” he said. “A cacophony of sounds and smells and action and lights. No matter where you turned, there was a party. And, I’ve always thought of that as a model for the film festival. You just excite people and keep it real. And, I think that’s what we’ve done.”
von Hausch said that the parties are a great way to bring people into the FLiFF family.
“You get to meet new people, find out there is some synergy there, and meet the celebrities in a low-key atmosphere,” he said. “Let loose, enjoy yourself, and find out about other films coming up.”
FLiFF first rolls out the red carpet with an opening night film and party at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Friday, November 4. The film American Dreamer starring Shirley MacLaine, Peter Dinklage, Matt Dillon, and Donald Glover, kicks off the event with a 7:30 pm screening. The lavish soiree that follows features a concert headlined by The Jersey Girls, open bar, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and dessert stations.
For those looking to attend “the” party, FLiFF will let you in on a little secret. On Saturday, November 5, Winterfest and FLiFF collaborated for The Secrets of the Sea Soiree at FLiFF Chairman Steven Savor’s extraordinary waterfront estate, Villa De Palma. Join fellow film aficionados at this spectacular party that promises surprises, musical performances, open bar, and exquisite cuisine. With very limited valet parking, attendees should plan for limos or Ubers.
Not all parties take place after the sun sets. For those who enjoy a daytime film with their fest, AutoNation IMAX will be home to an afternoon event on Sunday, November 6 between the 2:30 pm and 3:45 pm screening of Secrets of the Sea, a 40-minute documentary highlighting the ocean’s strange and magnificent creatures. Filmmakers, Howard and Michelle Hall and Jonathan Bird, will attend, as well as narrator, Joelle Carter, known for her role in television’s Justified. This delightful reception includes libations and light bites.
On Thursday, November 10, those looking for some international flair should say “Oui” to the Ride Above U.S. premiere and signature party at the Amaturo Theater. The French-film with English subtitles tells the captivating story of a girl and her horse. Join Director Christian Duguay for a celebratory toast at this party featuring complimentary Taittinger champagne, Provactivo Cava and wine and music by Ginetta’s Vendetta, a jazzy funky NYC-based band.
The parties roll into the weekend with a FLiFF beach bash on Saturday, November 12 at Las Olas Oceanside Beach at 7 pm. Partygoers will come together under a crystal-clear tent with dazzling lights while a huge outdoor screen plays Ground Swell, a film showcasing surfers taking on giant waves set against a stunning backdrop of the seaside cliffs of Portugal. The event also includes an open bar, food, and live music.
The festivities close with the Yellowstone Season 5 Premiere Party at the Bergeron Green Glades Ranch on Sunday, November 13. This one-of-a-kind party stays true to theme with a Western inspired event complete with a BBQ, performances by country and bluegrass musicians, Wild West performers, and rodeo girls. Partygoers are encouraged to dust off their cowboy hats and show off their best western attire. All proceeds of this event benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County.
