Renaming GMCSF’s Community Leadership Award Honoring Doug Pew

The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will honor community leaders and organizations at The Chic & Unique Ball on November 4th, 2023. The distinguished Al LaMorges Community Leadership Award has undergone a significant name change to pay tribute to the late Douglas J. Pew, who was the first-ever board chair of GMCSF (Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida) and a tireless advocate for the community throughout his life. Doug, whose influence and commitment were instrumental in shaping GMCSF’s vision, sadly passed away in September.

This year, two accolades will be presented in his name to commemorate Doug’s legacy. The first award for individual contributions will be presented to Harvey Shapiro and Michael Dager for their outstanding dedication and service to GMCSF and the LGBTQ+ community. Both individuals have shown an unwavering commitment to the ideals Doug passionately believed in and worked towards. The second honor will be awarded to Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Hollywood. This establishment has consistently shown active participation and contribution to community initiatives, embodying the spirit of the award.

In addition to these recognitions, the Corporate Crescendo Award will be presented to The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, spotlighting exemplary corporate engagement. This esteemed acknowledgment is a testament to their outstanding contributions to the Chorus, strengthening the bond between GMCSF and its corporate supporters.

GMCSF remains ever grateful to community leaders like Douglas J. Pew, Harvey Shapiro, and Michael Dager and organizations like Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and The Westin Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Their tireless commitment to the cause ensures the continuation and growth of the Chorus’s legacy and vision.
