Kory Burns Will Blast the “Radio” at Pride

The Local Artist Takes the Stage at Manor Pride Festival 2021

By Jonathan Rojas

Kory Burns grew up in South Florida, the only child of a single mother. When he was three years old, he heard Mariah Carey’s “Dreamlover” and he knew right away he was going to be a singer

That was twenty years ago.  He’s released several hit singles independently, including “Follow the Leader”.  Most are about things that are important to him like love, religion, his parents…

His latest single release is “Radio”, a song he recorded with Sean McMillion (Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and Snoop Dog) and Grammy award winner Carlos Battey.  It’s a seductive pop track about coaxing that special someone out of their clothes.  It’s more upbeat and feel good than Kory’s past releases and, as he explains, “is perfect for Pride and exactly what the world needs right now.”

Kory Burns will perform “Radio” and debut his next release at the Manor Pride Festival 2021 on Saturday, June 19th.  We spoke with him as he and his dancers were preparing for the show.

Why is now the right time for a song like “Radio”?

Kory Burns   You know when something just feels right? This feels right.

How did you connect with the writers and producers for the song?

Kory Burns: I met Sean (McMillion) at Betty Wright’s house and Carlos (Battey) though our mutual friend, Tonya. We talked about an idea and they came down to Miami and we made this happen. I also had one of my best friends, Steele, in the studio with me throwin’ some lines and ideas out and keepin’ me hyped!

What’s your ultimate goal, Kory?

Kory Burns:  To really, really make it.

How would you describe a day in the life of Kory Burns?

Kory Burns My days can either be extremely wild or completely chill. There’s no in between. I’m always working on projects and writing new music.

Is it fun being an independent artist?

Kory Burns:    There are pros and cons to being indie. The freedom is nice and I have full creative control which is cool.   However, it’s more challenging to get your music out and heard.

We’re excited to hear your tracks live at Pride!

Kory Burns   I can’t wait!  I have missed performing in front of live audiences!

How would you describe “Radio”?

Kory Burns  Radio is a fun upbeat pop song that’s clean enough for everyone to enjoy but naughty enough for a more mature crowd to get into.

Were you really inspired to write the song from your time hosting parties at Miami nightclubs?

Kory Burns:    That’s true!  South Florida is a revolving door with new people all the time.  One-night stands are nothing new in the club world. I would often see attractive people I wanted to take home for the night and sometimes I would make it happen and sometimes, well… no, I always make it happen!

That explains your next single!

Kory BurnsYes!   In addition to “Radio,” l will be debuting my new single called “Sex In Miami!” I’m in rehearsal with my dancers now to make sure we put on a great show for everyone.

Do you have a special Pride message, Kory?

Kory Burns:  I do!  Stand for what you believe in and never let anyone throw their negativity at you.  Be who you are and express yourself. Love is love!
