On Tuesday, January 23, 2024, Jackson Health System and Jackson Health Foundation, joined by dignitaries, philanthropists, and members of Jackson’s clinical care team, broke ground on Jackson Memorial Hospital’s new emergency room. The event highlighted Jackson’s remarkable progress over the past decade and unveiled key features that will distinguish the new emergency room as a state-of-the-art facility.
The reimagined emergency room will be a role-model facility in quality, efficiency, and experience. Key enhancements include more than 200 patient rooms, a fast-track triage to reduce wait times, 50 observation rooms, six resuscitation rooms, and family lounges and waiting areas that allow loved ones to be near patient care areas. The expansion will also provide additional diagnostic rooms and separate care spaces for those with special needs, such as behavioral health patients.
The existing emergency department will undergo renovations to match the aesthetic of the new facility. Notably, the new space will offer separate entrances for adult and pediatric patients; plus, a private car and rideshare drop-off lane.
“Jackson couldn’t do what it does without the support of our community. We are at the front lines of health care right here in South Florida, and the fact that we have an institution that is world-class in our backyard, open to everyone, is essential,” stated Flavia Llizo, co-president and chief development officer of Jackson Health Foundation.
