Craving the Unattainable

Unraveling the Attraction to Straight Men

By Daniel Morales (Self-Esteem & Love Coach)

Let’s be real, who hasn’t had fleeting thoughts about getting intimate with a “straight” guy? Guilty as charged, I’ve dabbled in that territory myself, and I bet many of you have, too. It’s easy to brush it off as just a fantasy, but let’s dig deeper, shall we?

So, what makes the idea of straight men so alluring?

  1. Masculinity: We’re drawn to it like moths to a flame. For many, growing up meant being bombarded with the idea that masculinity is the pinnacle of attractiveness. Blame it on societal conditioning or cultural norms, but straight-presenting men often find themselves on a pedestal.
  1. Dominance: Ah, the age-old dance of power. BDSM fantasies often revolve around dominance and submission, and guess who’s typically cast as the dominant figure? Yup, you guessed it—straight men. It’s the ultimate power play that some of us find irresistible.
  1. Validation: Picture this: you’re the last kid picked for the team, always feeling like you don’t quite fit in. Been there, done that. Seeking validation from straight men might just be a way to reclaim the power you felt you lost in your formative years.
  1. Acceptance: Remember feeling like an outsider, desperate to be part of the “cool kids” club? That longing for acceptance can linger well into adulthood. Sleeping with a straight guy might feel like finally being seen as an equal, a way to erase those childhood wounds.

But here’s the kicker—chasing after the unattainable can wreak havoc on your self-esteem. Trust me, I’ve been there. Seeking validation from someone who doesn’t see your worth is a losing game. It took me a while to realize that I didn’t need anyone else’s approval to feel whole.

So, if you find yourself caught in the trap of longing for someone who doesn’t reciprocate your feelings, it’s time to hit pause and ask yourself why. Is it worth sacrificing your sense of self for someone else’s affection?

In the end, it’s about learning to love and accept yourself for who you are. Because let’s face it, there’s nothing sexier than confidence—no straight guy required.
