We recently sat down with Chris O’Neill, owner and founder of The West End Lounge, a new cocktail lounge opening on Wilton Drive.
Baxter Martin: Hello Chris, thanks for joining us today.
Chris O’Neill: My pleasure. It’s great to be talking with you.
Baxter Martin: There’s been a lot of buzz around The West End Lounge. But I want to start with the unfortunate news of your business partner’s recent passing, Michael Sporn. How are you doing?
Chris O’Neill: It’s been a difficult time for many of us. In such a short time after moving here, Michael became a force in our community, particularly with his generous philanthropic endeavors. For me, he was not only my business partner but a dear friend. I know this project meant a lot to him and I plan to pay tribute to his legacy by naming our cabaret stage after him.
Baxter Martin: That sounds like a beautiful way to honor him. How are things coming along with construction?
Chris O’Neill: We started with a bang but then ran into delays. Every local business owner I speak to has their own stories of construction challenges. We recently hired a new contractor who’s doing a great job ensuring the integrity of our vision. What inspires me every day is the support from our community. They continue to be excited about this new jewel on the drive.
Baxter Martin: Has your vision changed during this extended phase of construction?
Chris O’Neill: We did much research to reveal what people were looking for in a new bar in Wilton Manors. So, our vision remains the same. We want The West End Lounge to be where people can immerse themselves in a beautiful atmosphere and enjoy signature cocktails, elevated light bites, and occasional live music. Our initial renderings of the space have received overwhelmingly positive responses, so we know we are on to something special.
