Join us for a mural unveiling at Mills Pond Park where we are thrilled to celebrate a new public art piece by local artist DJerlens, who is Haitian-American and attended Dillard High School.
You can find more about him here: https://djtheartiste.com/.
Public art, like this mural, makes artistic experiences accessible to everyone, beautifying our city. Here is more information about the artwork and the artist:
The mural aligns with park activities, capturing the spirit of community engagement in sports.
-
- In this living mural, the vibrant hues echo the laughter of children, the cheers of spectators, and the rhythmic beat of sportsmanship, perfectly harmonizing with the lively activities that unfold daily within our park.
- As you observe the mural, notice how seamlessly it integrates with the park’s daily life, reflecting the vibrant activities and community spirit that define this space.
DJ Chery, an art instructor for the Parks & Recreation Department, brings a unique perspective to the project.
-
- A maestro of creativity, DJ Chery’s brush strokes not only adorn our walls but also echo through the corridors of our community, as he imparts the magic of artistic expression to the next generation.
- Notably, he collaborated with local teens to transform a basketball court at Lauderdale Manors Park into a mural paying tribute to Chadwick Boseman. In Fort Lauderdale Beach, Chery showcased his versatility by designing aquatic life and a beach scene on four lifeguard stations, adding aesthetic value to the area. His artistic journey extends to large-scale outdoor paintings in Fort Lauderdale neighborhoods, emphasizing community collaboration in shaping public art.
