The front door of Hush Spa sits along Wilton Drive in the heart of Wilton Manors, but once you step inside, you’re suddenly a world away.
While the spa has been there for sometime, new owner David Sims has been working constantly to improve everything from the services offered to the overall vibe. Part of that vibe is making sure Hush Spa makes everyone feel welcome.
“I don’t want it to be a spa just for men or just for women,” Sims told OutClique. “I have the trans logo outfront because we’re in the LGBT center down here. I want everyone in this community to feel welcome.”
From the mood lighting to the eclectically cool decor, this place feels different from other spas, and Sims is just getting started.
“I’m not going to stop adding stuff until it’s tacky and overflowing. We can do this, we can do that! More color! More neon!”
Besides changing the look, Sims is expanding the services offered.
“We’re constantly increasing the services we do here. We do massage, body grooming and hair removal, and we do facials. We just added skin tag removal.”
Getting treatments in South Florida can offer special challenges, such as making sure a client isn’t going to be in the sun after certain treatments, like microdermabrasion. Also, each client is different and needs different levels of care.
Sims says once an appointment is booked, the customer stays until it’s complete.
“We may block out an hour, but if the [employee] says it’s going to take longer, it takes longer. The price doesn’t change.”
These days, facials are very popular, and they go hand-in-hand with many other provided services. Sims also has a fun term for popular treatments.
“Back, crack, and sac is what I usually call it. People want their back smooth, crack smooth, and sac smooth. The essentials. Down here people are concerned how they look from head to toe. We make you look good.”
Hush Spa requires appointments, and offers 10 percent off for booking online. Setting an appointment makes sure the right person is available for the treatment. Members of Sims’ staff are often improving their skills.
“Every single person here is continually doing courses. [At least] once a month someone is off to do an extra course in something or add something that we’re going to add to the menu. They’re really full force into what they do.”
At the end of the day, Sims says a satisfied customer is key.
“I want you to feel like when you’re here, this is your time. You’re being catered to and I want whatever experience you’re having to be great.”
