Distributing 150 free bags of groceries to people affected by COVID-19; outreach funded by donations from South Florida Virtual Pride Broadcast
Pride Fort Lauderdale will distribute 150 free bags of groceries and personal hygiene products to people affected by the COVID-19 shutdown on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 6:00PM at Hunters Nightclub in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors, 2262 Wilton Drive.
The bags will include proteins and vegetables, canned goods, grains and pasta, and pantry staples, as well as soap, shampoo, and other necessities. One bag will be distributed per person/household while supplies last.
Pride Fort Lauderdale organizes the annual pride festival on Fort Lauderdale Beach each year and had planned to host the first Pride of the Americas celebration, April 21-26, 2020. That event was expected to attract hundreds of thousands of guests from Alaska to Argentina and has been postponed until 2021, due to the uncertainties around travel and social distancing.
Pride Fort Lauderdale partnered with four other South Florida pride organizations (Miami Beach, Gay 8 in Miami, Wilton Manors Stonewall, and Palm Beach Pride) as the South Florida Pride Collective to present a two-day, 26-hour “Virtual Pride” back on May 9-10, 2020. The virtual festival was broadcasted on social media channels and garnered more than 74,000 views. Donations were earmarked and divided evenly among the members for charities and projects that benefit local residents in each community affected by the pandemic.
