Miss Bouvèé presents “Minnie’s Merry Murder Christmas”

Back by popular demand, Miss Bouvèé presents another murder mystery! From the playwright of & quot; Minnie Behind Bars" and Double Trouble" Miss Bouvèé brings you “Minnie’s Merry Murder Christmas” by Robert Leleux.

Fresh off the movie set of her feature film “Big Easy Queens” which just wrapped in late October, Miss Bouvèé is returning to her home of homes, the stage! She is also bringing some local friends along with her in a hilarious new murder mystery! OutClique asked Miss Bouvèé a few brief questions.

OutClique: You just wrapped a movie, you just finished working a week long cruise, and now you are heading into high holiday season; what made you want to do another play?

Miss Bouvèé: Well, I am not alone in all that. My partner in crime Jennifer McClain has been right alongside me in almost everything. It’s a lot easier to do when you work with someone like her. As for my motivation, it’s my job! And what a fun job it is. People want to laugh, go out, and enjoy being in a community after such a long period of being in isolation. It’s my pleasure to provide an option for them.

OC: Minnie Behind Bars was a huge success in October 2021! You sold out 11 performances at the Foundry with Ronnie Larson producing. What made you want to produce on your own?

MB: Ronnie and his space is a great place to create and learn. I had been producing on my own for nearly 10 years in the Detroit area, but Ronnie knows this area better than most. I learned some things from him and decided to produce on my own this time around. But I always encourage people to support Plays of Wilton (POW), Foundry, Empire Stage, Island City Stages, and all the small theaters just trying to create and entertain people, especially our queer community.

OC: Christmas and murder? Why that combo?

MB: Who doesn’t have those moments where you wish you could, especially at the holidays! In all honesty, the idea was Robert’s (the playwright). He thought it would be interesting to offer up something different than traditional holiday music, a concert, a Christmas carol, or something like that. I think people like variety, so we gave them a murder mystery!

OC: Is this storyline totally different than “Minnie Behind Bars”?

MB: Oh yes. Chronologically, this story follows after “Minnie Behind Bars”, but audience members need not worry if they didn’t see that production. We explain things enough and reintroduce familiar characters that were in that production like Ruby Belcher and Bruce Goodwood. This is an entirely different murder mystery play with some new characters and some familiar ones too!

About the show:

Miss Bouvèé is celebrating Christmas with her closest friends and family, and you’re invited! An evening soirée at Minnie’s Swiss chalet finds the newly released Ruby Belcher (Jennifer McClain) who has served her time for the murder of Darrel Lee Longstaff (the veryaccomplished pianis….t). Minnie’s daughter, and financial heir, Esme (Christopher Calhoun) is piping jealous of her mother’s new butler, Bottomsby (Benjamin Shaevitz). Are the two getting so close that Minnie will name him the heir to her fortune?

The evening’s party is going along swimmingly when an avalanche traps the party inside the chalet. A brief power outage reveals the sudden murder of Jacque De Cocque (Larry Buzzeo), Minnie’s ski instructor and lover. It will take the top notch detective skills of Bruce Goodwood (Larry Buzzeo) to solve the mystery and win back his now estranged and long lost lover, Miss Minnie Faye Bouvèé.

Who killed Jacque De Cocque? Was it the jealous daughter Esme? Is it the work of an already convicted murderer Ruby? Maybe a cunning butler like Bottomsby? It may have even been a suspicious Miss Bouvèé herself!
