“This season’s shows at The Wick Theatre all have one thing in common – they salute classic songs and legendary songwriters: Mamma Mia celebrated ABBA; the Winter Spectacular with Marilyn Maye honored the Great American Songbook; Gypsy showcased the lyrics of Stephen Sondheim and the music of Jule Styne and Sh-Boom! Life Could Be a Dream revels in the wonderful doo-wop music of the fabulous 1950s,” said Marilynn A. Wick, Managing Executive Producer. “Now, as we close this season, we are thrilled to shine the spotlight on the magnificent songbook of Neil Sedaka, and bring to our stage two immense talents, Barry Pearl and Christine Pedi to lead a cast of young, dynamic performers.”
The lighthearted plot of Breaking Up is Hard to Do, written by Erik Jackson and Ben H. Winters, transports audiences to Labor Day weekend 1960. Best friends Marge and Lois hightail it out of Brooklyn for a much-needed vacation at Esther’s Paradise Resort in the Catskills. After a devastating breakup, the girls are looking for romance “where the boys are.” Romance does indeed flourish and in the most unusual of places but is it the kind of love that will end their “lonely nights?” Add in a visitor from American Bandstand who just might be able to help to save the Resort and you’ve got one heck of a story that audiences just love.

Add in two fantastic stars, Barry Pearl who everyone remembers as Doody in the smash movie blocker Grease and Christine Pedi, Broadway star and Sirius XM Radio host of On Broadway, and you have a recipe for a good time.

Neil Sedaka is one of the most successful songwriters to come out of the Brill Building in the late 1950s. As both performer of his own material and songwriter for others, Sedaka has sold millions of records as well as scoring over 15 #1 singles. His compositions have been recorded by superstars such as the Carpenters, Captain & Tennille, ABBA, Clay Aiken, Connie Francis, Frankie Valli, the 5th Dimension, the Monkees, Engelbert Humperdinck and many more. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1983 and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Reservations for dinner at Tavern at The Wick are also available by calling the box office.
