Internationally-recognized LGBTQ+ advocacy group to host unique theater club experience.
Impulse South Florida will host an event Friday, October 4, 2019 from 8:00PM to 11:00PM at Stache Drinking Den + Coffee Bar in Downtown Fort Lauderdale with just a $10 cover for Open Bar. Entitled “FCKBoy” the purpose of the event is to give the community a fresh perspective on the realities of dating apps like Grindr. That missed connections do not necessarily constitute rejection, and that in no way should your encounters, positive or negative influence your self image and worth.
“Our goal is to empower participants to leave the experience with the psychological tools to engage with dating apps in a way that is less damaging to their self esteem, and the knowledge of how to take advantage of all that AHF has to offer to improve their overall wellness,” said Impulse South Florida Director of Operations Fr. Richard Vitale.
Guests can look forward to enjoying world renowned DJ Joe Gauthreaux, an open cocktails bar, and an experience that will give the audience a birds eye view of dating on apps, exposing the stark differences between appearance and reality. In partnership with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), free STI and HIV testing will be provided on site. Additional services such as information regarding PrEP and PEP, linkage to AHF Pharmacy, medical referrals, and links to mental health services provided by AHF and Sunserve.
Though primarily focused on promoting sexual health and combating the stigma surrounding positive AIDS diagnoses, Impulse South Florida is widening its aperture to tackle a broader range of health issues that face the gay community. Past events this year have touched on drug and alcohol abuse, mental health, and ending HIV stigma.
