The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF) is used to getting rapturous applause from adoring audiences. Now they’re getting it from their peers.
The Chorus is being recognized with the BBX Capital Organization of the Year – The Arts award. The honor was bestowed at the 13th Annual Community Care Plan Non-Profit Awards.
“We’re dedicating this to the 180 singers who volunteer hours upon hours because the believe we are for all and we share our diverse mission,” GMCSF Executive Director Mark Kent said.
The award, presented by 211 Broward at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, sings the praises of GMCSF’s work and their outstanding impact on the local arts community and their dedication to diversity.
“Cultivating these experiences we get to have with other organizations like, we’re creating these spaces and good times,” Gabe Salazar, GMCSF’s Artistic Director, told OutClique.
Singing In Spring
The Chorus will be here, there, and everywhere throughout the month. On Friday, May 3 at 8pm at UCC Fort Lauderdale, and Sunday, May 5 at 6pm at Coral Gables Church of Christ, they will perform their Tropical Wave Spring Concert, How Can I Keep From Singing? The show is a mix of familiar songs that will have you dancing in the pews.
May 31, 2024, they will perform the national anthem at the Marlins’ annual Pride at the Park night, getting a jump on Pride month by a day.
They will also sing at Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance, honoring survivors during a service at Yom HaShoah at Temple Sinai in Hollywood. Held on Monday, May 6, the sculpture gallery opens at 6:15PM on May 6, 2024, and the program will include a cable-lighting memorial ceremony.
