The month of September is special in a number of ways. It signifies both the end of summer and the beginning of fall, bringing cooler temperatures and a sense of change in the air.
September is known as the Harvest Month, and in mid-September, you’ll be awestruck by the Harvest Moon, which is also the second Supermoon of 2024 and will coincide with a partial lunar eclipse.
In particular, we recognize and honor the contributions of LGBTQ+ artists and creators who continue to shape and enrich the cultural landscape.
Additionally, September is highlighted by Labor Day, the national holiday celebrated on the first Monday of the month, honoring the contributions of workers and the labor movement. It’s also a day to celebrate Harvey Milk’s contributions to the labor movement. One of Milk’s primary efforts was to fight against discrimination in employment based on sexual orientation. He advocated for policies that protect LGBTQ+ individuals in the workplace, ensuring they could work without fear of being fired or harassed due to their identity. Milk built coalitions between the LGBTQ+ community and labor unions, strengthening the political influence of both groups. This alliance was crucial in improving wages, working conditions, and protections against discrimination.
This month, we usher in a new season filled with vibrant and diverse cultural and artistic endeavors, reminding us of the power of the arts to unite, inspire, and elevate our shared human experience. At OutClique Magazine, we are deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and celebrating the rich tapestry of voices that make up our community.
Let’s celebrate all that the month of September represents. We hope you enjoy this issue of OutClique Magazine.
