The Gay Men’s Chorus Of South Florida Lights Up The SeasonWith Illuminate:Believe In The Holidays

By Edward Otto Zielke

The holidays ask us to believe in something we cannot always see. This December, the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida (GMCSF) chooses to be the light. Illuminate: Believe in the Holidays fills Sunshine Cathedral with music that refuses to let the night win, across four performances: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, December 17, 18, and 19 at 8 PM, and a Family Matinee on Saturday, December 19, 2026 at 2 PM.

Under the direction of Artistic Director Gabe Salazar, the chorus pairs beloved classics with showstopping sparkle. Audiences will hear “Let There Be Light,” a bold declaration that light always wins over darkness, alongside “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” “Angels We Have Heard on High,” and the chorus’s traditional candlelight rendition of “Silent Night.” “Believe” from The Polar Express carries the season’s central promise that music is the world’s greatest equalizer. The energy rises from there with “Sparklejollytwinklejingley” from Elf, Cher’s “DJ Play A Christmas Song,” a tribute to Dolly Parton with “With Bells On,” and the joyful rendition of “Joy To The World” from The Preacher’s Wife.

“Illuminate is what we do. The magic of the holidays is why we do it now,” said Salazar. For LGBTQ+ people, light has always been our language. It speaks of coming out and showing up. It makes us seen so others can find their way home. This concert is for chosen family and for anyone who has ever needed a reminder that light lives inside all of us. Bring your friends. Bring your family. Bring your wildest holiday hopes.
