Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come since the 1980s. What was once a terrifying and often fatal diagnosis has transformed thanks to advances like modern antiretroviral therapies and PrEP. But as we make strides in HIV prevention and treatment, one aspect remains central to our work: mental health.
For those living with or at risk for HIV, mental health challenges can make every step harder—from accessing care to sticking with treatment. Anxiety, depression, stigma, and isolation are all too common. At SunServe, we believe that caring for mental health is at the core of managing HIV and preventing new infections. We’ve seen firsthand how supporting someone’s mental and emotional well-being can change everything.
Our programs revolve around this belief. We offer counseling, support groups, and therapy tailored to each person’s unique needs. Our goal is simple: to help people find their strength, resilience, and community. We know that mental health is the foundation upon which every other aspect of care rests. That’s why we work so hard to ensure everyone has access to compassionate, inclusive support.
Our affiliation with the AIDS Healthcare Foundation allows us to connect our clients seamlessly to medical care. But it’s our mental health services that drive what we do daily. When people feel mentally strong, they’re empowered to prioritize their health and embrace the fulfilling lives they truly deserve.
We’re also honored to be a part of AHF’s Florida AIDS Walk 2025, held every spring on Fort Lauderdale Beach. This event unites our community to raise essential funds for local HIV-related nonprofits. The matching donations from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation mean every dollar makes an even bigger difference, helping us continue our mission and expand our reach.
At SunServe, our team of mental health clinicians and social service professionals is dedicated to ensuring no one feels alone on their journey. We’re proud of the work we do and the lives we touch. But we also know there’s much more to be done.
