Frost Science Upcoming Events: January-February 2023

January 13 – Laser Evening

Join us as we combine legendary music with laser light visuals during Laser Evenings.

Enjoy the best of the 90’s with That 90’s Laser Show, enter the upside down with Stranger Things, rock out with the Rolling Stones, and more, all under the Frost Planetarium’s 67-foot dome.

Bring your friends and come early before your laser show experience. Refreshments and light snacks will be available for purchase in the Main Atrium until 10 p.m. Share your favorite photos and moments with us on social media at @frostscience using our hashtags #ItsScienceMiami and #FrostScience.

January 21 – MUVE Volunteer Workday

MUVE is excited to work alongside our community to care for our critical coastal habitats through nature-based volunteerism. On Saturday, January 21, 2023, volunteers will work together to enhance native coastal hammock habitat by removing nuisance vegetation and cleaning the beach. They’ll also be able to upcycle ocean plastics into magnets and investigate sand samples under the microscope with Frost Science and learn how they can dive into ocean-based citizen science projects, like The Southeast Florida Action Network (SEAFAN) BleachWatch and Rescue a Reef, to monitor and restore Florida’s Coral Reef.

During the event, volunteers will have the opportunity to chat with MUVE collaborators, The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Coral Reef Conservation Program, Biscayne Bay Aquatic Preserves, and the Rosenstiel School’s Rescue a Reef Program, to learn about upcoming citizen science trainings and local expeditions on the reef. All tools and materials will be provided. We recommend a reusable water bottle, close-toed shoes, sun and bug protection, and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty!

January 23 – Mini-Camp: Creative Chemists

No school? No problem! Our dynamic Mini-Camps are the perfect action-packed solution to a Teacher Planning Day. Kids (ages 5 – 11) will spend the day exploring the museum’s interactive exhibitions, conducting science experiments, and making new friends.

Get ready to explore the science behind things that fizz, pop, and bubble. Young chemists will discover the amazing chemical reactions found everywhere, from space to your own kitchen and conduct experiments to explore the colorful nature of those reactions.

January 24 – LIVE@Frost Science: Innovations in Navy Medicine

In this next edition of LIVE@Frost Science on Tuesday, January 24, Rear Admiral Guido F. Valdes, Commander, Naval Medical Forces Pacific/Director, San Diego Market and Chief of the Navy Medical Corps, will present Innovations in Navy Medicine. Rear Adm. Valdes will discuss the challenges of providing medical services on the high seas and will provide his unique perspective on cutting-edge Navy Medicine research and development, along with current and future US military operational medicine capabilities.

LIVE@Frost Science: Innovations in Navy Medicine is presented in partnership with the Navy Office of Community Outreach.
