The Imperial Sun Court of All Florida, often simply known as the Imperial Sun Court, is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation in the Sunshine State that hosts and participates in a variety of entertainment events and educational activities to raise money, which supports the causes of other diverse community-based charitable organizations that do not discriminate based upon race, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic background.
“The impact the Imperial Sun Court has made allows organizations to continue with the work they do in the LGBTQ community,” reigning Empress Jamie Lachoy says.
A new Emperor and Empress are elected yearly and are selected at Coronation, which is held
in January of each year. As the Empress, Lachoy’s job is to organize and host events by raising money throughout the year.
“I am the face of the court for the community, and I hold a general membership meeting monthly,” she says. “I oversee communicating with the leaders of the charities we work with, as well as the venues. I also continue to raise awareness within and outside of our LGBTQ community.”
Lachoy has been involved with the Imperial Sun Court since 2018. She began by assisting with community events.
“The court is special to me in many ways,” she explains. “It allows me to bring out the drag side that I love, as well as my activist side. I am the first elected transgender empress. I got involved with the court because of the love I have for my community and the people that live in it. As LGBTQ people, we live all types of lives, and the organization brings us together as one.”
The Imperial Sun Court is ever-evolving, and its members will always remain as visible as possible. Not only to the LGBTQ community, but the South Florida community as a whole.
There are several upcoming fundraisers and drag entertainment events, and Lachoy encourages anyone who is interested to stay up-to-date by following the Imperial Sun Court on Facebook and Instagram, or visit their official website, ImperialSunCourtFL.org.
Their biggest event is the Coronation, where new monarchs are crowned and will serve the community for the next year.
“Everyone is also welcome to join us every second Thursday for our general board meeting and every second Saturday for our general membership meeting,” Lachoy says. “Please reach out to me if you have any specific questions I can answer!”
