Joan the Rivers Still Runs Through It

By Steven O. Evans, PhD

Oh her sharp tongue is alive and well with my dear friend, Joe Posa.  But watch out if you go to Joan’s show. You just might get called out from the audience.  But don’t worry, it’s all just a big gag joke anyway.

I caught Joan between boa changes to talk about her upcoming show Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the Eagle Wilton Manors.  So talk about leather and lace, or fake diamonds or something.

Steven: Joan, how are you alive?

Joan: Hello my Darling! Well as you and your readers know, the one and only Joe Posa as Joan Rivers travels the world with his show and keeps Ms. Rivers’ comedy alive and relevant. It’s so much fun not only to give my audiences the hilarious and edgy comedy that was Joan, but to also replicate the glamour and fashion sense of this iconic lady. This past summer I was fortunate enough to work live and in person again in so many fabulous gay destinations. From Provincetown to Ogunquit and Rehoboth, to even my first time performing in London was truly amazing. People are eager to go see live performances again, and for me to make them laugh in a time that we all need to is so fulfilling.

SOE:  Tell us about your upcoming show at the Eagle?

JR: I’m so excited to bring this show,An Evening with Joan Rivers and Friendsto the Eagle stage. My special guests are superb and the audience will enjoy hilarious comedy along with stunning musical numbers. Joan will also Kibitz with her guest stars as if on the red carpet, so we can find out a bit more about the performers that so often appear on these South Florida stages.

SOE:  How do you keep the show alive after all these years?

JR: You know, funny is funny, so with each new audience my objective is to stay in the moment which keeps everything organic and fresh. I always start off with an outline for the evening but then, like a deck of cards, you just throw them in the air and see where they land. It’s an exciting way to approach the work and I hope your readers will come along for the ride!

SOE: Can you tell us one of your favorite jokes?

JR: For free? Buy a ticket and come to the show! LOL Seriously there are so many, but I’ll tease you with “Always remember, a man is like a tile floor, you lay it right the first time you can walk all over it the rest of your life!”

SOE: How are you going to control a wild and “eager” crowd for you at the Eagle?

JR: In Stand-up, you are indeed the ‘lion tamer’ and it’s your job to control the “beast.” The more an audience and their energy brings to the evening, the more of a wild ride we will all take. It truly is exhilarating to hear an audience laugh and have a good time!

Be sure to catch Joe Posa as Joan Rivers, Sunday, October 16, 2022, 6PM – 8PM, at The Eagle in Wilton Manors, FL.
