Boca Stage Announces 2022/2023 Season

Boca Stage is proud to announce its fourth season at Boca Raton’s Sol Theatre. The 2022/2023 season (the company’s eighth overall) will feature three South Florida premieres and an updated classic; two comedies, an edge-of-your-seat drama, and a modern ghost story. Tickets are on sale now for $40 to $50 and in-person box-office price of $120 until May 30 ($150 afterwards.) Tickets may be purchased at www.bocastage.net or by calling (561) 447-8829.

“After coming out of what we hope is the worst of the pandemic, we thought we’d take a season to lighten up a little by increasing the comedic content,” said Artistic Director Keith Garsson. “Therefore, we’re starting off with a new, modern ghost story, switching up with a drama and finishing with two comedies.”

The season opens on November 4th with The Thin Place, a new, modern spin on the classic ghost story. The Thin Place ran at Playwrights Horizons having closed just before the beginning of the pandemic. Playwright Lucas Hnath’s twisty tale of psychics and hidden dimensions earned raves for its ability to draw audiences into the story by professing that everyone who ever died is still here, just in a different part of here. The plot follows Linda who can communicate with them. And if you believe, she can make you hear them, too — in the thin place, the fragile boundary between our world and the other one. With acuity and relentless curiosity, Hnath’s play transforms the theater into an intimate séance, crafting an unnerving testament to the power of the mind, which has a mind of its own.

Time Alone follows as a poetic and poignant drama about two seemingly unconnected people, a widow and a young man serving a life sentence, both seeking redemption. The play is the product of the writer’s volunteer work in the California juvenile and justice systems. As the play unfolds both characters find themselves in places of extreme loneliness, and as time itself seems to unravel, their tales both contrast and mirror each other, providing answers to each other’s questions — until they find new doors to life.

Grand Horizons is another new play, also having run just before the pandemic, offering a comic spin on divorce amongst the senior set. The plot follows Bill and Nancy who practically breathe in unison; they anticipate each other’s sighs, sneezes, and ends of sentences. But just as they settle into their new retirement home in Florida, Nancy wants out. As their two adult sons struggle to cope with the news, they’re forced to question everything they assumed about the people they thought they knew best. Sophisticated, funny, and sometimes provocatively honest, this new hit comedy takes an intimate look at the unpredictable and enduring nature of love.

The Odd Couple (Female Version) is Neil Simon’s 1986 update of his classic New York comedy. This time, Unger and Madison are at it again, but it’s Florence Unger and Olive Madison who play the bickering roommates in this hilarious contemporary comic classic. Instead of the poker party that begins the original version, Ms. Madison has invited the girls over for an evening of Trivial Pursuit. The Pidgeon sisters have been replaced by the two Constanzuela brothers. But the hilarity remains the same.

“Strong characters and stories that resonate make this both a compelling and funny season,” said Director Genie Croft. “And as the cultural community emerges from this long dark period, we have chosen plays that will bring the audience together in a way that only live theatre can. We look forward to a season of shared energy and emotions!”

The Sol Theatre is located at 3333 N Federal Highway in Boca Raton.
